How To Run A Nutrition Challenge Powered By HSN Mentoring
TL;DR
A nutrition challenge is a great way to kickstart a nutrition program and your client's nutrition journey.

At Healthy Steps Nutrition and HSN Mentoring, we've helped over 3,000 gym owners, and coaches launch nutrition challenges over the past six years. An effective nutrition challenge will give clients a taste of the nutrition coaching program, help them achieve results but leave them wanting more.

We know that two-thirds of people will regain the weight they worked hard to lose on a diet because they try to change too much at one time, and they don't have the support and accountability to achieve lasting results.

Effective nutrition challenges are simple, individualized, and make it easy to continue.

You can access a training video recording, checklist, and all of the free help we provide related to running a successful nutrition challenge through HSN Mentoring HERE.

Here are 3 Tips To Help You Launch Your Next Nutrition Challenge:

#1 Keep It Simple

You need to structure your nutrition challenge to set your clients up for long-term success. This means your clients need to slow down and instead of changing everything at one time, just focus on one thing at a time.

At Healthy Steps Nutrition, we focus on a habit-based approach. When running nutrition challenges, we recommend only focusing on one habit each week.

If you keep it simple, your clients will not feel overwhelmed; they will be more consistent, which means they will see better results.

#2 Set Up Individual Meetings With Your Challenge Participants

When you create your nutrition challenge, make sure you build in time to see clients individually at the beginning and at the end of the nutrition challenge.

This allows you to build that relationship with the client and help them understand your role to support them in their continued success.

Here's what those meetings might look like:

Initial Meeting:

  • Assess their goals and understand their why
  • What does success look like to them over the course of the challenge and long-term success?
  • Test biometrics
  • Schedule the final meeting

Final Meeting:

  • Discuss their progress towards their goals
  • Discuss the bright spots
  • Discuss any struggles they had during the challenge
  • Retest biometrics
  • Guide clients to the next step to continuing with you

Make sure you value your time and charge appropriately for the individual time you will be spending during your nutrition challenge.

#3 Make It Easy To Continue With You

Your nutrition challenge should be the kickstart to someone's nutrition coaching journey with you. Imagine running a challenge with 40 people, then converting at least 20 of them to ongoing nutrition coaching to continue supporting them and add a revenue stream for you.

If you have structured your challenge correctly, we would expect at least 50% conversion to ongoing coaching after the challenge is over.

Through HSN Mentoring, we roleplay with nutrition coaches to ensure they feel confident, going into the final meetings and guide clients to continue with ongoing nutrition coaching.

Remember, you don't want to run too many challenges throughout the year. At HSN Mentoring, we recommend only running one to two challenges per year. Otherwise, people get started with individual nutrition coaching.
