We live in an instant-gratification, convenience-based world where you have a unique opportunity to wow your gym members and guests. And in our ever-evolving quest to help you level up, PushPress has integrated QR codes to help you do just that.
Especially this time of year, people are busy. The kids are going back to school and people are starting to assimilate their new, fall routines. So anything you can do to save them time or make tasks simpler might make you their productivity superhero.
So, first things first. What are QR codes? A "Quick Response" code, is a type of two-dimensional barcode that can be read by smartphones and dedicated QR barcode readers. It often appears as a square pattern of black modules on a white background and can store a range of information such as text, website URLs, contact details or other data.
The Benefits of a QR Code.
Here are several ways that a QR code can be beneficial for your business, your team and your gym community:
- Convenience for Consumers: By scanning QR codes with their smartphone, customers can quickly access information without having to type anything.
- Instant Information Sharing: Share your gym’s information instantly. This can include class details, upcoming events, movement demonstration videos, etc.
- Cost-effective: Creating and printing QR codes is relatively inexpensive. They can be included on existing print materials or added to product packaging.
- Engagement Tracking: When consumers scan a QR code, you’re able to track this action, helping you analyze the effectiveness of your goals.
- Space-saving: In instances where space is limited, QR codes can be used to provide additional info without cluttering your gym space. See specific examples below.
- Environmentally Friendly: By transitioning to digital materials accessible via QR codes, you can reduce dependence on paper, leading to more sustainable operations.
Given these benefits, it's clear why many businesses have adopted QR codes as part of operations, marketing strategies, etc. And as with any tool, success will depend on the effective execution of strategies. The goal is to ensure that the content linked to the code provides real value to your gym members and guests.
Four Ways to Use QR Codes at Your Gym.
Now let’s look at the practical application of QR codes in your gym. To get some ideas, we spoke with PushPress Core Onboarding Lead Jessica Hamel. Here are four suggestions to get the ball rolling in your fitness business:
1. Use QR Codes in the Staff App.
The PushPress team recently added support for a faster sign-up process for new members using QR codes in the Staff App. Now, your new member can simply walk up to the Staff App, select the membership plan, scan the auto-generated QR code and complete the purchase process. Instead of having to enter all of their personal info manually, their phone already has it saved. So signing up is quick and seamless!
As you probably know from experience, this sure beats sending the profile and payment setup, and waiting for someone to get around to filling them out. The QR code process allows you to complete it on the spot and get your new member rolling.
2. Post QR Codes Around the Gym.
Posting printed QR codes throughout the gym can be extremely effective as a communication tool. Consider using a printed code to promote new programs at the front desk. Perhaps stick a QR code on the rower, linking to a video demonstrating proper rowing technique. Or what about an announcements code on the bathroom mirror?
Once again, people are motivated by convenience. For example, maybe Joe has been meaning to sign up for the new powerlifting class you’re offering this September. And Sarah just hasn’t gotten around to picking out the hoodie she’s has had her eye on. If you can make the sign-up or purchase process quick and easy, you’ll get members to take action and increase gym revenue in the process.
Pro Tip: You can pack an incredible one-two punch to keep your members informed by combining QR codes with PushPress Grow automation! Want to find out how Grow can save you time while automating your lead nurture and member experience? Book a demo with our team today!
3. Use QR Codes to Help with Drop-Ins.
Imagine this scenario: A group of friends are vacationing in your town and they decide to drop in for a workout. They show up for class about 10 minutes early. But as each one stands in line to purchase a drop-in, time slips away and now your coach is late for starting class.
With QR codes, your coach or front desk staff can have each person scan the code and fill out their information from their phone, all a the same time. The process is quick and painless, so your gym continues to run like a well-oiled machine.
4. Create a QR Code “Menu” for Membership Options.
As Hamel explained, creating a “QR code menu” is a creative and effective way to streamline your sales process.
Although it might take a little time to set up on the front end, it’s worth it for the simple user experience on the back end. PushPress is releasing a feature that allows gyms to sell membership plans through the Staff App. QR codes will display the options on the Staff App kiosk. Then new customers can simply scan the code to purchase a plan.
In Summary:
Oftentimes, members and visitors have the best intentions to purchase services or products, but the process can be prohibitive. In a convenience-hungry world, even one extra step can cause people not to follow through.
So when it comes to revenue opportunities at your gym - or even communicating updates - QR codes are a powerful option to explore. Use them to sell membership plans, get waivers signed, promote programs and more. It’s often a cost-effective and convenient way for you to instantly share info with your members and get them to act.
