Introducing Dan Uyemura, a fearless entrepreneur who’s embraced the roller coaster called life. Entrepreneurial minded from birth, Dan has been pulled toward business like gravity. From childhood paper routes and baseball card portfolios to college days amidst the internet explosion, Dan's entrepreneurial spirit has always burned bright.
Moving away from home for college, Dan founded Mixture.com, a web based lifestyle community ahead of its time. Mixture was Dan’s first taste of building a product people truly loved - and he was hooked. Mixture was doomed by the dot-com bubble, but the seed of building services and products that people loved and valued was planted in Dan.
After spending a decade as an application and internet engineer for startups in the Los Angeles tech landscape, Dan encountered a pivotal crossroads. Discovering CrossFit reignited his passion for fitness and sports, even as he grappled with personal challenges. This journey led him to a profound self-reflection deeper than he ever anticipated.
Amidst the turbulence of a divorce and job loss, Dan launched LAX CrossFit in 2010. Unbeknownst to him, he was grappling with deep-seated depression and searching for anchors. Taking on too much, he spiraled into a brief yet harrowing phase of drug dependency. This led to devastating losses: his home, his gym, cherished friendships, and, most significantly, his sense of self.
Facing a pivotal moment, Dan stood at a crossroads. One path was guided by faith in a brighter future; the other, a familiar route leading back to his recent troubles. Dan chose faith, hoping it would illuminate his way forward.
Dan credits two things for his rise from the ashes: Community and Fitness. Fitness channeled his fervor towards positive growth, while the steadfast community that stood by him reinforced his faith in humanity's inherent goodness. Today, deeply anchored in this belief, Dan sees the potential in everyone.
He wanted to share both of these powerful life catalysts to the world - so he decided to double down. He decided to open a new gym.
From 2011 to 2013, Dan focused on three things: himself and his recovery, opening a new gym, and building the software he knew gym owners needed to run better businesses.
In 2013, Dan opened Torrance Training Lab with Jamie and Lexie Hagiya and built the foundations of PushPress with it alongside Chris McConachie and Brian Aung. Dan owes everything to these four partners in the early formation of what would become PushPress today.
In 2019 Dan sold his portion of Torrance Training Lab back to Jamie and Lexie, who continue to be stewards of fitness and health in Torrance, CA.
Today, as PushPress CEO, Dan empowers gym owners, rewriting industry rules with raw honesty. His journey is one of setbacks, redemption, and an unwavering belief in never giving up.
